Key takeaways from our May 2025 Roundtable
On 15th May, Ekco hosted a roundtable at 42BR Barristers offices titled – Securing Chambers: Navigating Modern Threats. The roundtable brought together different sets of Chambers staff, to discuss the unique cyber security threats facing the sector. The conversation highlighted the gap between traditional corporate security models and the specific needs of Chambers, focussing on balance between access, usability, compliance, and evolving threats like AI misuse. The conversation exposed some interesting challenges which Ekco is able to support, including:
- The need for tailored security solutions are essential as a ‘one-size-fits-all’ model doesn’t work for Chambers
- Simplify technical communication and guides for Barristers.
- Support responsible AI adoption and give clarity on how to use it securely.
- Introduce a tiered security framework to roadmap future deployments.
- Expand Apple Management capabilities and security.
Join our next Chambers roundtable on 24th September
Join our security experts and other Chambers to discuss real-world security challenges. Rest assured, these sessions are not PowerPoint presentations. With a select group of your peers gathered in one room, you’ll have the opportunity to learn about the tools, strategies, and technologies used by others in the sector. We want you to get as much out of them as possible.
Register your interest for our next event below and we’ll send you more information and an official invite nearer the time.
Copilot in practice: secure, strategic and supported
Since Microsoft 365 Copilot launched in late 2023, organisations have been eager to get started. The interest in AI is sky-high, and rightly so. But alongside that enthusiasm, there’s also hesitation. Not because people doubt the value, but because IT leaders want clarity. Is it secure? Are we ready for this? And what will Copilot actually change in our day-to-day work?
In this blog, we cover what successful Copilot adoption looks like from strategy through to secure implementation.
Client Spotlight: Essex Court Chambers
In such a high-stakes environment, where the smooth running of technology can directly impact casework and client satisfaction, dependable IT infrastructure is critical. But over time, Essex Court’s systems were no longer meeting expectations. Their Citrix-based environment had become unreliable, with session dropouts interrupting productivity and frustrating users. Performance issues started to affect business-critical workflows, while Citrix licensing continued to incur high ongoing costs.
Discover how Ekco helped Essex Court Chambers migrate away from legacy Citrix infrastructure, improve reliability, reduce costs, and do it all without disrupting operations.
LexisNexis and Harvey Form Strategic GenAI Alliance
On June 18, 2025, LexisNexis and Harvey announced a major strategic alliance, marking a significant development in the legal tech space. The partnership will integrate LexisNexis’ generative AI tools, legal content, and Shepard’s Citations into Harvey’s AI platform. This will allow users to ask legal questions in natural language and receive citation-backed answers from primary legal sources.
How does this impact chambers?
This announcement marks a significant shift in the legal tech landscape, with several important implications worth unpacking.
The alliance between Harvey and LexisNexis bridges a key gap in legal GenAI: access to verified, authoritative legal data. Harvey’s strength lies in its generative AI capabilities – summarization, drafting, extraction – while LexisNexis offers the depth and reliability of primary legal sources. This is not just a product integration, but a merging of complementary value propositions.
Lawyers and legal professionals are the big winners here, They can now:
- Ask complex legal questions in plain English.
- Receive accurate, citation-backed responses.
- Access automated workflows for critical litigation processes like Motions to Dismiss and Summary Judgment.
For an industry heavily impacted by time constraints, lawyers and barristers will notice a reduction in research-to-drafting time, helping deliver more consistent and efficient work.
Most importantly, it elevates the baseline for what legal professionals can expect from their tools: speed, precision, and trust—all in one place.
Top tips for remote working this summer
As Chambers begin to wind down for the summer, many of your staff and Barristers will be working remotely – from home, airports, or even poolside. See below some of our top tips when working while travelling or away from the office:
- Public Wifi: Avoid using public or unknow wifi. Use a mobile hotspot instead.
- Phishing: Phishing attempts increase in the summer. Be careful what you click on and always verify the sender.
- Theft & Loss: Thieves often target tourist attractions or popular locations like restaurants, pubs and events. Ensure your property is secured and within eyesight at all times.
- Juice Jacking – USB charging stations can be tampered with to steal data or install malware on your device, avoid using these stations.
- Device Safety – Chambers devices used for work must be physically protected against theft when not in use e.g. locked in a cupboard, hotel safe, hidden from view, carried in hand luggage.
